Wine and Woods!

This was a fantastic way to experience 3 musts in San Francisco in one day without having to worry about driving or planning. Jay was knowledgeable and easy going, which allowed plenty of time to enjoy each stop. Each winery was different in terms of style and scenery. The second stop was a red-focused tasting, but did have a Prosecco and Chardonnay for purchase.

Disappointing trip… so much potential so unfulfilled
Justin_S
, Jul 2022
This trip had so much potential, yet it was vastly unfulfilled. We booked for July 1, and then were told on June 29 that they couldn’t do July 1 due to staffing and asked us to reschedule to July 4. OK, no big deal; we were in San Francisco for multiple days. On the 4th, they were 25 minutes late to pick us up. No one called me; I called them and they said one of the other people was running late. Again, no big deal but you could’ve called me. Our first stop at Muir Woods was great. Plenty of time to see the trees. And then it went downhill. It became very clear that our tour guide wanted to get back to San Francisco in time for his evening plans and our day accelerated to ensure he got back. We were promised a lunch stop in Sonoma Square. When we pulled into Sonoma Square, there was a huge festival on the Square. Our driver seemed surprised by this, but this festival looks like it happens every July 4th. Anyway, our driver looped around the square and then pulled into Whole Foods, where he told us to pick up sandwiches that we would eat at the first winery. I didn’t travel 3000 miles and then take a bus to wine country to eat a sandwich that I could get 2 miles from my house. We then went to our first winery. After scarfing down our Whole Foods sandwiches on picnic tables in the parking lot (because we couldn’t bring outside food in to the winery), we went in for our tasting. The winery itself was beautiful and the wine was great. Unfortunately, our pourer/hostess had just gotten back from a “crazy wedding party weekend” (her exact words) and wasn’t really in the mood to talk with us. So she poured and let us drink, but I didn’t learn anything about the wine. Then it was on to our second visit — this time in Napa Valley. But instead of going to one of the hundreds of wineries where we could sit outside and look at vineyards, we went to an INDUSTRIAL PARK. Inside the storage facility was a lovely wood table with some great wine. The tasting host was full of great information and I really liked him. And the wine was good. But c’mon … I didn’t come across the country to sit inside an industrial park under fluorescent light on a beautiful 80 degree sunny day in Napa. We then flew down the highway back to San Francisco and were dropped off at 5:30 … when the original tour said drop-off was 7pm. I appreciate that the tour was July 4 and it’s a holiday for some folks, but I only get one chance to visit the wine country and this tour could have been so much more.

Our tour was small and it felt very personal. We stopped at several points but we spend enough time at each place so we didn't feel rushed. We loved the mix of Muir woods followed the wine tastings. The Napa Valley wine we tried was exceptionally good.

James our guide was knowledgeable, very nice and all the timing was perfect. We are from TN. and I feel I paid a fair price for the adventure that gave us a great experience. I’m so very very happy I found this before I hit the go button on something else.

Guide was great. Muir Woods was spectacular. Nice small group to travel with in comfortable van. Timely pick up at hotel. Just would have liked more time in town of Sonoma to browse. Sonoma winery was great. Napa winery so-so. Full day- pick up was 8-9 am and we returned about 6 pm.

This was a fun wine tour with an awesome tour guide (Kimmy)! It was a little disorienting to be asked to switch tours from Viator to Extranomical and the pick-up and drop-off schedule was rather long and circuitous, but overall I'd still recommend this getaway as a lovely introduction to Napa and Sonoma.

The tour guide Ellen was professional and a safe driver. The tour began with a quick photo taking of Golden Gate Bridge. Then headed to picturesque Muir woods and stayed their about 45 mins which is enough for essential main trial. In the afternoon, Roche and Modonna winery were both nice. From the taste of wine perspective, I personally like Modonna more.

Good way to see Muir Woods and a taste of wine country
Sherri_J
, Apr 2022
Our driver was Ron, and he was great about making sure that we got to see as much as possible in the time we had. We got to stop for photos on both sides of the Golden Gate bridge and had enough time at Muir Woods to see most of the park at a leisurely stroll. We stopped for lunch in Sonoma Square and had plenty of time to eat lunch and stroll around the shops. The first winery we went to in Sonoma, Robledo, was a bit of a let-down, as they did not provide a tour or any information on the production of the wine. The host poured us samples of four wines, and briefly described their flavor characteristics, but that was it. The second winery in Carneros, Ru Vango, was much better. Our host provided a lot more information about the winery and the wine-making process. He poured us samples of three wines, but after a little persuasion, he also gave us a sample of their Pinot Noir, which was quite good. We wandered out into the vineyard to see the vines up close and were entertained by the many hawks who patrol the property for unwanted invaders.

The guide on our tour, Mitch, was informative, funny, and engaging while giving us enough time to explore at every stop. He provided a lot of information not just about viticulture in Sonoma and Napa but also about San Fransisco and cool places to check out. I plan to take their other tours when I’m visiting and cannot recommend them highly enough.
