Amidst the Ponderosa pine forests of northern Arizona — and just 60 miles from the Grand Canyon — is the Bearizona Wildlife Park, a natural animal sanctuary with a large variety of North American wildlife.

The bulk of the park is a 3-mile, self-driving tour. This adventure features the likes of Rocky Mountain goats and elk, Alaskan Dall sheep and tundra wolves, arctic wolves, mule deer, American burros, black bears, bighorn sheep, white and brown bisons and more.

Then, stroll through winding walkways to get an up-close look at the playful antics of even more animals on exhibit, like beavers, porcupines, otters, bear cubs, bobcats, javelinas, foxes and more. There’s also the Bearizona Barnyard petting zoo, to get up close with the baby animals, and a Mine Shaft Experience, which houses some nocturnal animals and even a few creepy crawly critters.

Finally, enjoy a Birds of Prey exhibition, which allows visitors to come face to face with hawks, owls, falcons and other raptors. Programs include training demos and free-flight shows, all with a narrative on natural history, conservation and interesting facts — an entertaining and educational experience for all ages.

Bearizona Wildlife Park
Bearizona Drive-Thru Wildlife Park is an animal sanctuary in the amazing Ponderosa pine forests of northern Arizona, just 60 miles (96 km) from Grand Canyon National Park. Bearizona is the only park of its kind in the southwest United States and is the perfect location for your next family adventure! In the comfort of your own vehicle, drive through Bearizona to see North American animals in a wilderness environment. Catch views of Rocky Mountain Goats, American burros (a type of donkey), majestic Brown Bison weighing up to 2,000 pounds (900 kg), Big Horn Sheep, Dall sheep (native to Alaska and Canada), stealthy Alaskan Tundra and Arctic Wolves, majestic white bison and, of course, the gorgeous black bears. The drive-thru portion of the park is approximately 3 miles (4 km) long, takes approximately 45 minutes and includes the use of a GPS device that will guide you through the route. After your drive, get out of your car and visit Fort Bearizona, a walk-through area where you can stroll along the winding paths and watch the antics of the park’s baby animals and smaller species. Get there early to see the animals more active first thing. We drove thru again later after walking around and the animals weren’t out or walking around as much later in the day.
Best time

This was our second time to visit. The key to a great experience is to arrive at opening, that’s when the animals come out to eat. They are fed close to the road, so you get up close to bears, wolves, and other animals.

Bearizona is awesome. Being able to experience a drive thru animal park is magical. The only thing we wish we could have seen are the birds of pray. We didn't notice them, probably because of the trees and they are birds, but all in all it was wonderful!
Not a tourist trap.

A wonderful experience. I am happy to say that I was able to go to. It's a quaint zoo. Not more than 300 animals. But it was awesome to drive by the big black bears and wolves. I Definitely recommend !
