Central Park Zoo

64th St and 5th Ave, New York City, New York, USA, 10021

The Basics

While many tours of New York City’s Central Park are available, from walking and running tours to sunset, bike, and pedicab tours, most do not include entry to the zoo. You may, however, be able to glimpse the sea lions during these tours, whose enclosure can be seen from outside the zoo’s perimeter.

To enter the zoo, buy a general admission ticket at the door and explore the main zoo and the Tisch Children’s Zoo at your leisure. Alternatively, purchase a package ticket online before arrival. This ticket offers discounted entry to the main zoo, the Tisch Children’s Zoo, and one entry to the zoo’s 4D Theater, which uses air blasts, lighting, water mists, vibrations, and other sensory tricks to enhance the experience.

Magical Night Time Ride through Central Park & Rockefeller Center (45-50 min)
Beautiful ride thru the city. The driver was courteous and friendly. The rain didn’t deter from the experience

Classic 1.5-hour Central Park Pedicab Tour
We had the best tour with Johnny Cash. He was personable, knowledgeable, funny, and an excellent photographer. This was the perfect length of tour and the ride was comfortable. We couldn’t find the signs for 59th, but if you are at the sign for 7th by the horses, you’re at the right place. Enjoy!

Private Horse and Carriage Ride in Central Park
While the actual ride was amazing, it took forever to find a driver that would accept these tickets. And they weren’t super friendly when they didn’t. Another woman had the same ticket and couldn’t find a driver so we let her share the ride with us. So we paid over $300 for one carriage. I would recommend bringing cash and paying a driver directly. Also, if you want to get out a take pictures along the way, ask before you pick your driver.

Private Relaxing Horse Carriage Ride in Central Park
My granddaughter was celebrating her 16th birthday. We had dinner at Robert over looking Central Park. Then we took the carriage ride through Central Park. Our guide was very acknowledged about the park. He took some pictures for us. He also took us back to the hotel in the horse an carriage.. He certainly made our night majestic. I would recommend this tour to everyone.

Private Horse and Carriage Ride in Central Park
We have been to New York before but never got around to doing the carriage ride. Getting to seeing Central Park from the carriage was so nice. Our carriage driver was very knowledgeable about the park which made the tour even better.

How to Get There

Parking is expensive in NYC so it’s best to use public transit instead. The N, R, and Q trains all stop at Fifth Avenue–59th Street station, a few blocks from the zoo entrance on 64th Street. The No. 6 train also stops at 68th Street–Hunter College station, which is about a 10-minute walk away.

When to Get There

Spring and summer weekends are the busiest time at the zoo. Come in fall or winter to experience the zoo at its calmest. Time your visit to coincide with one of the twice-daily penguin feedings (10:30am and 2:30pm) and thrice-daily sea lion feedings (11:30am, 1:30pm, and 3:30pm) to see these animals at their most active.

Other Things to Do in Central Park

While you’re in Central Park, consider taking some time to explore the rest of the 843-acre (341-hectare) space. Pay homage to the late, great John Lennon at a memorial honoring the murdered musician, sunbathe on Sheep Meadow, and go boating on the Central Park Lake. During summer, the park hosts outdoor entertainment events, from open-air concerts to Shakespeare in the Park.
